Why OG?

Orthon-Gillingham (OG) is an educational approach for students with reading and writing challenges developed by Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham. Dr. Orton, a neuropsychiatrist and pathologist, identified the neurological basis of dyslexia in the early 20th century and emphasized the importance of multisensory approaches to teaching reading. Ms. Gillingham, an educator and psychologist, collaborated with Orton to develop a structured, sequential, and multisensory method for teaching reading and spelling. Their combined efforts resulted in the Orton-Gillingham Approach, which has become a foundational method in dyslexia education and structured literacy instruction for the general school population. This approach has empowered countless students to become successful readers and writers.

This is why OG practitioners are so excited about our field. We know this approach works. We see progress firsthand through pre- and post-intervention test scores, and we witness it in the eyes of our students.
